Planting lawn grass seed.

Planting is pretty straight forward really you just need to know a few things to get started, first you should pick either spring or fall to plant your seed, these are great times to help germination of your seeds.

You should also try to buy a couple of bags of topsoil to spread over the area, this will help to give it a better chance of germinating quickly.

Then you need to mark the area where your lawn will be, then turn over the soil and rake it to remove any rocks or big lumps, the raked soil should be left around 3" to 4" deep this is all you need.

Then you need to spread the seeds within a uniformed way to make sure your grass will grow evenly, using a spreader or splitter is the easiest way of achieving this. You then need to lightly rake in the seed around 1/4" deep, this will make sure the seed is left within good contact with the soil, once it is planted you need to start your watering regime.

You should lightly water the seed twice a day until the grass has come up through the soil, once the turf is within sight you should water every two to three days. Grass grows much faster when it is kept moist on a regular basis.

You should also consider buying a starter fertilizer for your turf this will help the turf seeds to germinate and grow quicker than normal, make sure not to cut your turf until it has reached at least 3" to 4" high, left till this height gives the turf root system chance to get established.
